Parents Beware Gaming May Be Beneficial To Your Child’s Career!

Today’s tech-savvy kids and young adults spend more text messages everyday than there are people on the planet. They grew up tethered to multiple electronic devices while juggling text messages, surfing the Net and listening to iPods – all while doing their homework. They mix learning, communicating and playing.

By age 21 years of age, it is estimated that the average child will have:
– Spent 10,000 hours playing video games
– Sent 200,000 emails
– Spent 20,000 hours watching TV
– Spent 10,000 hours on their cell phone
– Spent under 5,000 hours reading

As more and more adults worry that children are wasting time online, texting, or playing video games, social network and video sharing sites, online games, and gadgets such as iPods and mobile phones are becoming more mainstream fixtures of youth culture. Is our next generation of workers frittering their lives away – or is it just possible that resistant parents and employers are the ones becoming more out of touch with reality. New research just released by the MacArthur foundation might serve as a wake-up call…or at least force adults to pause before they pull the plug on their kids.

According to findings published in the study Living and Learning with New Media, this digital world is not sending our youth back to the age of caves and dinosaurs but creating new opportunities for youth to grapple with social norms, explore interests, develop technical skills, and experiment with new forms of self-expression.

Today’s youth are almost always “on,” in constant contact with their friends through private communications like MySpace and Facebook. But contrary to popular opinion that complete strangers are stalking and dominating these relationships, most youth are almost always associating with people they already know in their offline lives. The majority of youth use new media to “hang out” and extend existing friendships in these new ways just like generations before did with pen pals and tree houses.

A smaller number of youth do use the online world to explore interests and find information that goes beyond what they have access to at school or in their community. They form online groups, driven by common interests, to network with peers outside the boundaries of their local community. They can also find opportunities to publicize and distribute their work to online audiences, and to gain new forms of visibility and reputation. By exploring new interests, tinkering and “messing around” with new forms of media, they acquire various forms of technical and media literacy.

And to a lesser degree, some youth “geek out.” They dive into a topic or talent. But contrary to popular images, geeking out is highly social and engaged. Geeks tend to be highly specialized and seek the knowledge of both teens and adults from around the country or world. But in the digital world, experts aren’t automatically recognized by age. In many respects, geeking out erases the traditional markers of status and authority. In the digital world, expertise is what demands respect and they are more motivated to learn from their peers than from adults.

Again contrary to adult perceptions, youth who are hanging out online are picking up basic social and technical skills they need to participate in contemporary society. New media forms are altering how youth socialize and learn and if adults don’t choose to keep up with today’s new media, it is very likely that they will be the ones left disconnected and out of tune with reality.

Apple Macbook Pro 17-inch And Asus Republic Of Gamers 17.3-inch Laptop – A Comparison Review

After looking closely at the updated MacBook Pro MD311LL/A and the new ASUS G74SX-AH71, we have to rate the ASUS the king of the gaming laptops while the MacBook is a nice upgrade to an existing line.

Looking at the basic, the ASUS G74SX-AH71 comes out on top starting with memory. Where the MacBook computer offers a maximum of 8 GB of memory, as well as the use of Intel’s Multi-Threading technology, the ASUS offers access to up to 16 GB of memory as well as to the same Multi-Threading technology.

In the video arena, the ASUS comes about ahead as it offers the latest Nvidia GTX 560 M chipset with 3 GB of independent video memory, although the MacBook does a good job with video by offering the latest AMD Radeon HDG770 video chipset, but only 1 GB of dedicated video RAM. Granted the Apple video memory is GDDR5, but still the ASUS comes to the field ready to play, while the Apple arrives sort of ready to play both in the video arena and the standard arena by implementing Intel’s 3000 chipset as part of its system software.

Then there’s the matter of heating. Both laptops are state-of-the-art and use the latest quad-core Intel I7 processor. Each also uses Intel’s Multi-Threading technology so that each of the processors can actually run two tasks at the same time, allowing multi-tasking. And, since these are Intel devices one can assume both have access to not only Direct X 11, but also direct access to the available memory.

What happens here, though, is that a lot of heat is generated and while the Apple does use a single piece of aluminum as the case for the MacBook, it does tend to run warmer than the ASUS. The ASUS case, which has been designed to have at least a five-degree tilt for comfort – what they don’t tell you is that the tilt also helps airflow, but that’s thermodynamics for you – as well as a specialized method of drawing in cooling air so that the processor is cooled and the air is then shunted away from the keyboard and you out specialized vents to make the ASUS a much cooler-running machine, despite the fact that it does have twice the memory and a high-speed gaming-oriented video chipset.

Finally, the ASUS keyboard is almost full-sized and features a desktop-style numeric keypad as well as specialized palm rests and a high-definition gaming-optimized display. (Both displays run at high-definition levels of 1920 by 1080, by the way, although the ASUS is optimized.)

Don’t get us wrong, for lightweight gaming work, the Apple MacBook is fine, but if you are into heavy-duty gaming, then the ASUS should be the choice.

g Internet And Online Gaming

Online games have become more and more popular over the past few years. Many people love the idea of playing role-playing and action games in a real-time environment with live people. Through online gaming, players get to connect with a new world while making friends or enemies with people in countries around the world. The one problem that these games are having, though, is that the graphics are expanding before the Internet technology does, but the new 4G Internet technology is offering some solutions to those problems.

You see, when you play a game online, whether its as simple as an online poker tournament or as complex as an entire created world with a variety of characters, sound bites, and graphical ingenuity thrown in, youre sending information through the Internet both ways. Your computer is constantly downloading information from the game program, and you are constantly sending information back through the Internet to interface with the game so that you can have an effect on the online environment.

The problem is that the more sophisticated and rich the game is, the more information there is to send both ways. If your computers Internet connection is too slow, then youll constantly have glitches in your game play and will end up possibly slowing the game down for everyone else if youre playing as part of a large group of virtual game players. When your computer tries to send and receive so much information over a slow connection, everything simply gets clogged up, which is part of the reason that you might experience freezes in the game when your Internet connection isnt fast enough.

4G Internet can solve these problems, though. Basically 4G stands for fourth generation, which means that this type of Internet is super advanced compared with the last Internet speeds. Essentially, every time the industry moves to a new generation of Internet technology, the available speeds double each time. So 2G Internet is twice as fast as the first generation of Internet, but its still much, much slower than 4G Internet.

When you upgrade your Internet connection to the fourth generation of technology, you end up with a super-fast connection. This makes sending packets of information back and forth to the gaming interface much more quickly. This means that playing a game of solitaire online is quick and easy, but it also means that you can take the most sophisticated Internet-based game out there without glitches or slowing of your computers connection.

If you like to play games online or if you have a child who enjoys it, upgrading to 4G Internet is a great idea. Not only will this upgrade make your gaming process better, though, but it will also make the process of watching movies and listening to music online smoother, and it will make it simpler to upload and download large files from the Internet. Overall, upgrading to 4G is a great idea for everyone, but its an especially worthwhile upgrade for anyone who likes to play games on the Internet.
